“JUSTICE FOR GIRLS” STAKEHOLDER LAUNCHING EVENT SIGNALS INITIATIVE UNDERWAY
SCLC “Stop the Violence Initiative” Seeks Collaborative Stakeholder Participation
ATLANTA -- On Thursday, January 10th, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm at OrganiX Food Lounge (239 Ponce deLeon Ave.NE 30308), the Southern Christian Leadership Conference will hold a “Justice for Girls” Stakeholder Launching Event. The “Justice For Girls” strategy inside SCLC’s re-emerging “stop the violence initiative” focuses on impacting the sex-trafficking of children. The other strategy of the initiative – “Streetpeace” – addresses urban predatory violence.
“It started with King in Montgomery,” professed SCLC President Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian. “When we were talking about racism, we were talking about stopping the violence. We’ve got to frame this issue in this century.”
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference seeks to build a developmental collaborative with stakeholders around the nation to fulfill on the mission of the “stop the violence initiative”.
Opening remarks will be made by several prominent civil and human rights leaders, including SCLC President Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian, CEO Dr. Charles Steele, Jr., First Lady and Director Cathelean Steele, “stop the violence initiative” Ambassador Ms. Xernona Clayton, and City of Atlanta School Board Member and Executive Director of Atlanta Victim Assistance, Inc. Ms. Brenda Muhammad.
The stakeholder launching attendees will also be addressed by special guest speaker Ms. Lisa Williams, Founder and Director of Living Waters for Girls, a therapeutic refuge for sex-trafficked girls. Ms. Williams will speak upon the State of the Sex-Trafficking of Children Issue and the Charge to Sex-Trafficking Stakeholders.
