The SCLC Better Education Program is a national program aimed at promoting equitable education by addressing the systemic disparities within American education. The Better Education Program through:
addresses ethnicity and race based disparities within education.
African American and Latino youth across America are disproportionately impacted by disparities within American education. Additionally, African Americans and Latinos constitute the highest number of high school dropouts. The systematic political marginalization of ethnic and racial minorities has consistently contributed to the educational achievement and subsequent gainful employment gap that exist within low-income and minority communities.
The SCLC is responding to the education crisis in America by advancing a national program that promotes-- through forums, conference and direct action efforts:
As the SCLC works to achieve the altruistic ideals of our founding President Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by cultivating the "beloved community" and championing equity, we are committed to addressing the state of education in the United States as a civil rights issue-- an issue that impacts the success of all Americans.
